Today...

Today, I vow to work hard.

Today, I vow to turn off the TV.

Today, I vow to finish a project or two.

Today, I vow to really listen to my children.

(except when it is bedtime--then I will politely ignore.)

Today, I will not be too busy.

Today, we will play.

Please be sunny!

Let's Go Ride a Bike

Thumbelina learned to ride her little 12 inch bike without training wheels a few weeks ago. She asked hubby to take them off, was too afraid to try and rode her scooter for about a week. Then, we went to the church parking lot. Oh that magical place! The boy learned to ride there in it's wide open spaces. Thumbelina was afraid to try. So she sat on the seat, one foot on the pedal, and scooted around the lot pushing with her other foot.

I knew she could do it. So I held her up. She started pedaling. She went a little too fast for out of shape Mom to keep up. So I let go. She immediately put her feet down.

So we tried again.

I held onto the seat. She got settled. She kept looking over her shoulder at me. She began to pedal. I ran a bit with her. Then I said, "I am letting go---KEEP PEDALING!!!"

I let go.

She looked over her shoulder once to see me...not holding on.

Then she grinned from ear to ear and shouted, "I'm doing it!"

One Down

This summer is going to be the summer of the onesie. (Well, for all those that aren't potty trained.) I bought Squirt a pack of 12 month onesies a month ago with the intent to embellish them so they could become her summer wardrobe. (Good thing it kept snowing and raining and being cold since I hadn't done anything with them.) Onesies are easy. Easy on, easy off. This is important especially because when I try to put her in cute shirts, and ask hubby to take it off of her so she can enjoy some chocolate animal crackers without destroying her white shirt...this happens: HE destroyed her shirt! Apparently my husband is too strong and manly for sweet little flower buttons. (In all fairness, I am pretty sure this shirt was a hand-me-down from cousin Leah (who is almost 8) and has also been through Thumbelina and Squirt. Whatever!)

So after lots of research, I decided on a design for my first one.

Start to finish it probably took me about 30 minutes. And cost was minimal. I used a crib sheet that never fit right (but came in a pack of 3) for the flowers and little pearls for the middle.
I love it, but didn't take into account that she turns 1 at the beginning of the summer and won't fit into the 12 month size for very long.

Overheard

Last night at dinner:

Munchkin: I can't marry a girl. I have to marry a nice boy. Do you know who the nicest boy for me is? Grandpa. That's why I'm gonna marry Grandpa.

Thumbelina: You can't marry Grandpa. Grandpa's old.

********

Yeah--cuz age is the problem in this scenario!

In a Fog

I am slowly climbing out of this illness fog that we have been under for almost 2 weeks now. Here's what we have to show for it:

2 ear infections
1 sinus infection
1 case of cellulitis--around her eye
1 case of strep throat
3 different people vomiting
3 different antibiotics
and
1 bottle of Lortab syrup

Today is filled with trying to take naps, washing every pillow and blanket in the house, and two sinkloads of dishes.

Oh yeah, and snow. In April. On the first day of Spring Break.

Perfect.

Starting Early

Guess who got an iPod for Easter?
Guess who it's going to be hard to communicate with for the next 13 years?

Better Late Than Never

April Fools is so much fun with the kids. I did jello in their breakfast cups. They thought it was hilarious! Then for ET's lunch, I switched out his cheetos for baby carrots and put a gummy worm in his apple.

Then we had pizza for dinner:

Made out of sugar cookie dough, pureed strawberries, grated white chocolate and yellow coconut. Topped with starburst pepperoni and jelly bean peppers and olives.

And for dessert: Yummy cake
Meatloaf with mashed potato frosting.
But in the midst of all of this fun, we got to go and visit our favorite doctor lady...4 times in 3 days!
